#2 - Calm begets calm, temper begets temper

This is a spotting phrase that I use with the kids alot. Can't you tell?

When I think of this one the first thing that comes to mind is Proverbs 15:1

"A gentle answer turns away wrath"

and there are many more but 1 Peter 3:3-4 is also a good reminder...

"Your beauty...whould be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."

Having a "bad" temper is not something that we should use as an excuse for bad behaviour.

Dr. Low believes that alot of depression or anxiety also comes from temper.

My webster's defines temper as "disposition of the mind, irritation". If tiny things are irritating through the day - eventually it will come out in your behaviour as a temper - that could manifest itself as anger, anxiety or depression.

Ever notice that when one person "loses it" that others will too? Especially children who have not learned to control their emotions properly yet.

The opposite is true "Calm begets calm".

What a huge responsibility we have to model these things to our children and the reality of it is that we will fail, not all the time but it will happen. May our Father in heaven grant us all we need to remain calm despite our circumstances and accept what He has given us!!!

  1. "calm begets calm" I should write that on my kitchen wall (in big letters), to remind me during crazy meal times. Thanks for the post.
