Happy Birthday, Gloria!!!

Well today is a very special day in our household.  The regular author of this blog is celebrating a birthday.  I won't say which number that would not be nice.

What I will say is that Gloria is an amazingly special person. Two nights ago, Madilyn was up in the wee hours of the night. Gloria was changing her and preparing to nurse her. The love of a mother was so clearly evident from across the room. It was electrifying. Her calm demeanor, her loving touch sent shivers to my core. I have married a special person, who even though is tired after delivering her 6thchild and enduring the last number of months without a good night of sleep, she still displays such a precious heart. What a blessing!

So today we celebrate a wonderful women, wife and mother.  We as a family also celebrate the Lord’s goodness to our family but giving us such a wonder wife and mother.

Gloria, we love you dearly.  You are the best.  My God grant you a wonderful year ahead and we hope and pray we can love you as much as you love us.

Not much else but feeding, changing and baby love going on around here.
I had a tiny set back with a piece of retained placenta but now that has been resolved I am very thankful to be back on my feet AND so thankful that Madilyn is so healthy and doing very well!!
Also, we have been very blessed with lots of meals, well wishes, prayers and concern - what a blessing to have the communion of saints to uphold us to the Lord in love and prayer!!!
Praise to the LORD the Almighty the King of Creation!!!!

Baby Quilt - Finished!!!

IMG_0212
I can not figure out how to get these pictures bigger without losing resolution!!!  Any ideas???

Will took this picture of my hands on my belly and then Aleana photo shopped it and added the Bible verse.
I made it bigger despite losing resolution - otherwise you can't read the Bible verse!!

Here is a shot of the back.  I used fleece on the back and that made it harder to free motion the borders because it was "sticky" as I was moving the quilt around. I wouldn't recommend fleece for free-motion.  Most quilters probably already know that (I learn most things by trial and error :)) but in case you didn't ....I was going to free motion the entire thing but in the end decided to use the walking foot on the body and free motion the edges.  It went faster and I was sooooo pleased with my decision.  The straight lines and the full batting that I chose really solved all my wonky, bunchy problems and made the quilt look so cozy and purposeful instead of disasterous.  Yayyyyyy!!!

Here you can see the swirls on the border and the puffy squares in the body.  I quilted straight lines 1/2 off the seams and then every third line length wise for no reason other than "I just felt like it".

I love the blue binding too!!  I won't tell you about the big mistake I made with the binding minutes before I was finished.  I just don't want to think about it anymore.  Two corners survived but the other two may need some work later.  For now I am leaving it because I just want to use it!!!

I want to intentionally post more pictures of the school kids as they get sorely neglected here.  This photo of Ethan was taken while Will was playing around with our new camara.  Some one told me the other day that he looks alot like Rev. Bredenhof!!  I never thought of that before but when she said it I could definately see it.  The photo on the right Aleana took - she is very talented with a camara.
Okay baby - we're ready when you are!!!

Ps. 91 - "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD , "He is my refuge and my fortress: My God, in Him I will trust."" Ps. 91:1-2 NKJV

I love how they are so individual in their style.  Good job Faber kiddos!!!

First Things First

Before I show you pictures of the finished quilt, I need to blog about some other things.  Last Thursday we stayed home from Bible study because Nadia had a cough.  I wanted to keep Peter occupied so I reverted back to our homeschool days and told him to pick a topic to study.  He picked volcanos.  The book we looked at covered earthquakes and volcanos and it was really fun to go through it.  Then Peter asked me to make a volcano for him.  I quickly looked up all the details for I knew the basics but really didn't want a chemical disaster in the kitchen.  Then we got started.

Afterwards Peter was really disappointed. He had imagined that we would build a volcano and it would be truly real looking with orange lava and everything. I was disappointed that I didn't deliver but hay I tried and we did have fun while we were doing it - even though it was so terribly unexciting for him, Nadia and I had fun.

A Mother's Blessings

I copied these from Aleana's blog.  She took these herself.
I think Nadia is her favourite model.

Nadia reminds me soooo much of Aleana at the same age - except she is not as strong-willed.  She will have a temper but it won't last for a half an hour.  I am so glad Aleana out grew that stage and has become the level-headed young lady we see today.
Nadia has interesting eyes.  They are hazel (if you could call them that) - the pies in her eyes are alternating blue and brown.  Then, in her right eye 4 pie pieces are only blue.  I love it how the LORD makes everyone so unique!!!

Stay tuned for sewing pictures.  I am almost finished quilting the baby quilt - I had a lovely afternoon sewing with Nadia all over me (seriously, we co-operated rather well) - I just have to finish quilting the borders and get the binding on.  I hope to do that all tomorrow while the family goes swimming without me.
I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and support because I am so pleased with it now that it is quilted!!!  I am so grateful that I stuck it through and didn't cut it all up into pillows.
Can't wait to show you!!!  Stay tuned.
