First Day of School 2009

Here we are slogging through our new study on Ancient Egypt.
This is the first day and all the children got to color pictures from the Dover Egyptian Coloring Book and color on the map I photocopied. They were grumpy mostly because it was Monday (our children do not DO Mondays very well at all) and it was the first day of routine. Do you mean I have to get up early and the day is not all mine? Notice Ethan is covering up his work.
There was a HUGE problem with Matthew copying Ethan's color scheme. It was so bad that from now on Ethan is going to copyright his work and ha! Matthew won't be able to go near without getting arrested (?!?!). He's my future lawyer - sigh. In the meantime things are not always peaceful.

Ah ha!!! Someone actually looking happy!! Could it be the grumpies are gone already?
They will all be smiling once I am through with them (wicked laugh).

These are most of the books for our Ancient Egypt study. Sigh...I love books. The one on the left is stories about some of the pharoahs. At first the children groaned (because I guess they figure that's their job where school is concerned) but now that we are on Chapter 3 - they love it! I love it when that happens. Na na na na na na.

This is Peter - intently scribbling on a map. He too wanted to use the same colors as Ethan. ARGHHH!!!! Who can stand such torture?!?

This is Matthew - enjoying the reactions from his older brother.
To someone's push buttons is indeed a talent.

Here is Aleana working hard at ignoring her pesky brothers and their "issues".

Ethan, you can't always get what you want.
But if you try real hard and talk real nice,
you'll get what you need.
Ya ya ya ya.
(Can you hear the song in my head?)

  1. Happy schooling! 3/4 of those Egyptian books were familiar as I just unpacked them. I still had them in our homeschooling boxes. Josiah and Julie loved learning about Egypt, the pharoahs, and the pyramids, etc. I enjoyed teaching them that unit/topic, especially how it all linked to their bible studies units at the time. Providentially, around the same time, the Science Centers were having the Egyptian displays on. So they got to see a real mummy, etc. AWESOME!! It was so exciting. Now math on the other hand.... sigh.

Hope you have a great school year! Wishing you much patience, energy, and discipline! :)

    Love,
    Rose

  2. Here is an interesting link to a video about the 7 Wonders of Egypt. I'm fascinated by that sort of thing.
