Chore #12 8/13 done

On Saturday June 9th we had a baby shower at our house for Jon and Ava's daughter Alcyon.
It was fun!!

Here is the dolly herself with one of the grandmas. There were two great grandmas, two grandmas, some great aunts and even one great great aunt!!!

Aleana made these delicious chocolate dipped strawberries.  Yum yum!!!

So yesterday I washed 8 of the 13 cupboards in the kitchen.  What a task!!  It took me three hours.
I have five more to do but today I'm toasted.  Tomorrow I will post some pictures of the most cleaned up ones.  Thankfully most of them were cleaned last summer by Ethan so it wasn't too bad but it is definitely needed in places like the snack cupboard where crumbs like to hang out.
I really feel like I am losing my motivation.  I have noticed that I am starting to think of ways to avoid getting this job done (or postpone it).  I am finding it hard to do the things I normally do in the day like bake for the kids and make granola.  Oh no, now I'm whining.  Maybe this afternoon or maybe even tomorrow I will feel differently about seeing the last half of the chores through.

Now this doesn't have alot to do with chores (although it might...)
We were reading this in devotions yesterday and I would like to share it.
It's from Hebrews 12: 5-7.
"And you have forgotten that word of encouragemenet that addresses you as sons: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lost heart, when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and punishes everyone he accepts as a son."  Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?"
The foot note for 12:5 states "Suffering and persecution should be seen as corrective and instructive training for our spiritual development as his children.".
The foot note for verse 11 ("No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it") states "When received submissively discipline is wholesome and beneficial."

So tell me dear reader - how long is it going to take for me to learn that lesson and why oh why didn't I learn that earlier and save myself a whole lot of grief?  The frustrations of our rebellion against our Father in heaven!!!
And tell me too..have you learned to accept the Lord's discipline when hardship comes your way?

Have a blessed day in God's Almighty hands.

  1. Your question:
And tell me too..have you learned to accept the Lord's discipline when hardship comes your way?

Slowly accepted it...too slowly, but it has benefited me. Discipline always benefits if done in love. God disciplines those He loves. I used to think discipline was a four-letter word...sound harsh, but that is how I used to think about it.

  2. Just a very quick comment because I really should be preparing for tonight (20 people over for a bbq) and this comment will not be about your profound question. You had originally said you expected to take a few days to clean the kitchen cupboards and it seems from this post that you were really hoping to do it in one or two days at most. Maybe you should have broken this task down into a bit more manageable bites and divided into 3 or 4 days, doing some badly needed and some "easy" ones each day. Trust me, this is a lot of work and can be very tiring.
You were saying you are losing motivation. I don't know what you still plan to get done before summer but if the weather is nice make sure you get outside! If you can't get it done, make a list of what you still need to do and then promise yourself to get at it after Thanksgiving. Nothing wrong with that!!

Oh, and as to that profound question, sanctification is a process, always on going. We will never have "arrived" on this side of heaven. Yes, there will be times when we feel "we understand, we get it", only to be reminded some time later that we have forgotten. I guess it keeps us humble ;) Looking upward and not inward helps.
    Have a super day.

  3. Just courious on how you pronounce the name Alcyon? is it close is Allison???
to comment on your question...the struggle with the sinful nature is on going for me too,Gloria. But if it was not painful, I would never look to my Saviour either. To receive it submissively? hhmmm....
by the way, tell Aleana those strawberries look delicious!!
