Thanksgiving Pies

Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater...

decided he wanted to bake pumpkin pie with his pumpkin from his field trip.

Love that orange!!

Because our home is certifiable gluten-free - these pies were as well.

He was VERY happy to be finally making his pumpkin into pie.

This blog looks like he made them all by himself but he had help - Aleana was this tutor.
What a nice sister!!!
Oh yes, and the pie was delicious!!!

Blessings in Disguise

Can keeping up a blog actually teach you anything? I believe it can!!  Looking at my activity on here in the last year shows me several things.  1) Having a newborn takes up alot of  time!!  2) Using flicker to up load photos was really not worth the time.  I was starting to question my blog and the purpose of it.  As I have read, alot of bloggers go through this.

In the past month we have had a problem with Internet Explorer on our computer.  It's a weird situation where all the blogs are stuck on one day.   Because of #1 above I do not check my regular blogs as often as I used to and would like to.  So it took me about a month to realize that it was not just coincidental that EVERYONE was not blogging for the whole month.  It wasn't until I went to the news one day to keep up with the happenings in the world that I clued in.  Hay!! It is not possible that the news stays the same as two weeks ago is it??? Nahhhh, I didn't think so.

Long story short.  Some problems end up being blessings.  I have now discovered the amazing abilities Google Chrome has over Explorer.  The number one ability is that it can download pictures for me onto my blog no problem!!!  So maybe this sounds really pathetic to you techies out there.  Maybe I should have used Chrome a LONG time ago - I don't really know.

Lately, I have discovered that I don't know alot ESPECIALLY when it comes to keeping up with technology and teens.  My teens teach me so much that it humbles me - almost every day I learn new tech talk like: twerking (look that one up, I'm not sure why it exists), Hash-tag (really?? - makes sense but sounds odd) and Amazon drones (scary - what if something falls on your head??!!) . I'm okay with them knowing more stuff like that than me.  I'm going to have to be.  It is the way it is.  I guess I could be more on top of things and be a more "cooler" Mom but that's not me for a hundred different reasons.  In a way it connects us as they take me by the hand and express their knowledge to me, and at the same time I am a little nostalgic and sad about it because gone are the days when in their eyes I knew everything.  I was the ultimate vending machine of wisdom.  I'm not in a total depression about it - thankfully, I have other little ones that still need this ol' machine.  The teenagers do too - even though they would never admit it.  Smile :) - being a Mom is a blessing, and it's a great career because you can never complain that your life is static and boring.

Conclusion?  You may be hearing more from me - Baby is getting older and pictures are downloading faster. Things are changing and change can be a good thing.  Even if it doesn't make sense at the time.
God is good with things like that.

I'd hash tag these two any day!!!

Baby Blanket

Deroche - Aug 28-Sept 1, 2013

For a couple of Labour Day long weekends we have gone to Deroche, B.C. with the Van Delft clan.
We always have a grand time and the kids LOVE it!!!  What's not to love?  They have....a waterslide,
 a pool,
a cozy cabin with a loft,
 a bat house,
 a dog,
 swings,
 to make them giggle,
flowers to make them stand in awesome wonder,
 and of course, dwarfs (!!!??).
The best part was Auntie Alice and Uncle Colin had baby Jude on Monday morning
- on labour day, go figure!!! What a blessing!!!

Manning Park 2013

This was the weather at the end of our trip.  I have some pictures from the rainy days on the other camara.
We didn't last.  I was fed up after 2 days of rain and we packed up and came home 3 days early.

We had alot of sunny days at the beginning - yah!!!  We went hiking almost every day and this is how Madilyn traveled.  She loved her backpack!!

What a good way to travel!!!
 Aleana with her Auntie Michelle.
After awhile it does get a little boring.
You can't see it very well - but I chose these two pictures because you can see Joel's and Matthew's ribs.
Matthew was very scared to do this and you can see it in his face.  But he did it and I'm happy for him that he did!!!  It was good for his confidance.

Grandma and Grandpa Bredenhof came up for supper - fun!!!
We had Smores around the fire - delicious.

One trail we hiked on was a cross country ski trail.  That's why these outhouses are so high!!  This was Nadia's first experience with an outhouse.  She asked what the hole was for and I explained and instead of protesting (or refusing to go like some of our children!) she replied "Okay" and dropped her drawers!!!
The boys were very excited to accompany Uncle Ryan on his bug adventures. This is rare bug that only comes out every 21 years!!  Ryan was very thrilled that he found this guy!!
This shot reminded Aleana and I of a scene from Alice in Wonderland.
An old Chevy we found on one of our rainy day adventures. Aleana takes cool pictures.
By 4pm we were all packed up and ready for home.  Yah!!  It was fun but once the rain came - it was NOT!!  We had a good week with lots of good hiking, fishing and canoeing.
Thank you LORD for keeping all of us safe!!
